Cummings Road - Roadway & Drainage Improvements

Steere Engineering provided highway and traffic design services for the Town of Swansea for the resurfacing and drainage improvements on Cummings Road. Cummings Road is a narrow roadway that was significantly deteriorated and in need of repair.

Cummings Road is a narrow roadway that was significantly deteriorated and in need of repair. Steere designed for the roadway improvements, including reconstruction, development of the horizontal alignment and vertical profile, site grading, and conceptual stormwater and erosion controls. The half-mile roadway was designed to improve safety while maintaining minimal impact to the existing driveways and without increasing flow to the wetland areas.

The project included full depth pavement reconstruction of approximately 1,700 feet of Cummings Road, roadway grading, installation of gravel subbase, placement of bituminous base and surface courses, and installation of drainage culverts and control structures. Temporary erosion and sedimentation controls were established. Traffic management was required to insure traffic flow throughout construction.
