Resurfacing of scenic route 1a & route 2

Steere Engineering is the Prime Consultant for roadway design services for the upcoming resurfacing for a total of 24 miles of roadway on Scenic Route 1A (Boston Neck Road) and Route 2 (South County Trail) within the Towns of North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Exeter, Narragansett and Richmond, RI.

The project includes minor drainage modifications, micromilling, leveling, resurfacing, isolated repairs to roadway transverse joints, replacement of non-conforming guardrail end treatments, new traffic signals (done by others), installation of ADA compliant sidewalks and maintenance and protection of traffic. It includes the preparation of plans and construction documents, i.e., preparation of GIS base mapping, utility coordination, development of a traffic management plans, obtaining environmental permits, pavement design, NEPA documentation, Small-Site Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), stormwater coordination, and all other essential documentation to advertise the contract in accordance with federal and state regulations. Construction services include addressing requests for information (RFIs), reviewing shop drawings, and providing project coordination.

The resurfacing project specifically included the development of a RIDOT Level 3 Transportation Management Plan including general restrictions for the minimum number of lanes to remain open to traffic during construction, temporary traffic control plans, signing and striping plans and details. The traffic control included mitigation plans for sidewalk and bike lane closures and detours. Steere performed field reviews to evaluate traffic flow conditions during construction lane restrictions to identify any areas of concern and mitigation measures.

Steere prepared and submitted advertising documents, including plans, specifications, distribution of quantities and a cost estimate. Additionally, Steere was responsible for preparation of a high-level project schedule to include milestones, dates for construction, NTP and contract completion date.
