MBTA Systemwide bridge inspections
Steere Engineering performed inspection of a variety of MBTA bridges and structures carrying both commuter and transit light rail throughout Massachusetts.
Bridge inspection types included both in-depth routine and fracture critical. Structure types included simple and multi-span steel through girder and floorbeam, steel multi-girder, reinforced concrete arches, and stone masonry arches. Steere utilized a variety of access equipment and traffic setups to perform inspections.
All field inspection, inspection reports, and repair cost estimates were performed in accordance with the FHWA National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), the FHWA Recording and Coding Guide for the Structural Inventory & Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges, the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges, and MBTA guidelines.All inspections were documented using the MassDOT 4D database.
