Connecticut Statewide bridge inspections
Steere Engineering performed bridge inspections throughout the state for the Connecticut Department of Transportation in accordance with the National Bridge Inventory System (NBIS) standards on a variety of bridge and inspection types. Inspections were performed over highways and state routes, municipal roads and active and inactive AMTRAK routes.
Bridge types include steel beam/girder, steel box girder, concrete box girder, concrete arch, steel truss, concrete slab, concrete I-beam and prestressed concrete I-beam, and the inspection types include routine, in-depth, special and fracture critical.
Examples of bridges inspected in Connecticut include:
Baldwin Bridge over the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook (2018 & 2022): assisted on two inspections of the 11-span concrete, segmental bridge
Route 177 over Farmington River in Farmington (2022): fracture critical and routine inspection of the steel truss originally built in 1939 and rebuilt in 1989
I-95 Southbound over Groton Reservoir in Groton (2020): routine inspection of the 9-span concrete girder bridge on concrete abutments
Steere has performed inspections and was responsible for the preparation of inspection reports in accordance with FHWA’s National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), the FHWA “Recording and Coding Guide for the Structural Inventory & Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges”, AASHTO “Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges”, and the CTDOT “Bridge Inspection Manual”. The inspections were documented using the state’s SMS Software.
